Gratitude while FIRE'd

Image
Another year has come and gone. Last November while watching the sumo tournament, Asanoyama said something that caught my attention. He's been gone from the very top division for sometime and I was happy to see him back. He did well and when he was interviewed after getting a winning record, he said: A lot has happened a long the way, the tournament isn't over yet. So I want to say focused, keep my gratitude in mind and continue giving my best. That is a good attitude to cultivate - an attitude of gratitude.  Last Monday, I stopped at a counter to do a pickup and I realized that people get up each day to show up to work. Later during the week, I stopped by the store to look for replacement bulbs and on my way back to the garage, I saw a worker helping a customer with loading their car and what I felt was gratitude to God. God has been good to me.  I think that sometimes, it's easy to forget the good we have but I think it is important to focus on the good we have, on the bl...

Time Value of Money (Inflation? Or the "T" word?)

I went to IKEA last weekend. I had a coupon that was going to expire and because I knew I wasn't going to get the chance to go on Sunday, I stopped by after going to the Japanese Festival . I almost went to Greekfest after but most of us decided to go home. I  decided I'd like to use the coupon now than have it wasted since IKEA was less than a couple miles away and on the way home. I spent $0.75 with tax for a set of dishes and a serving bowl . The dishes were $0.79. I got 11 of them and one serving bowl because I had already purchased one to try out. I wanted to try it out because it is white and I wanted to see if it will stain. It doesn't. So I went back to complete the set. I added the serving bowl because the coupon was $10 off a $10 or more purchase. The serving bowl was $1.99. I got the small bowl-like instead of the small plates because I thought that would be of more use to me. They look like the small plates but with the curve so I felt they would still work f...

Reasons to Not Shop With Amazon points

Image
A few days ago, I decided to take advantage of a Cyber Monday deal and buy a digital product on Amazon. Initially, I converted some points into my gift card balance so I could use it for the purchase. But when it came time to buy, I decided to use my points. It was a small purchase and for no apparent reason, I decided to leave the gift card balance for another time. I barely shop on Amazon lately. And I've been a customer for over 20 years. I canceled Prime long before the Pandemic. For reference, I used to buy things on there almost daily. And back in 2005, I ordered petty household stuff from there. How could a college student afford that? Gift cards and Amazon was very cheap back then. I had also moved to a state that didn't have an Amazon presence so they were not charging taxes back then? Remember those times when Amazon had a bit of an edge from Brick and Mortar stores😁? Although prior to that, I lived in a state with an Amazon presence and they charged taxes. But I mo...

You Can Now Buy Kindle Books on Android app (November 2024)

Image
Yay! This is so exciting. One of the ways I spend my time is reading. Although I haven't done much of it this year and think I did more of it when I worked. Then again, I've had other things to this year so there's that. But a benefit of Retiring Early or getting FIRE'd is having some time for reading and I enjoy  both physical books and Kindle books.  I use the Amazon kindle app on my phone to read a lot and this morning, I saw the notification saying: You can now buy Kindle books from the android app. Find your next read. I checked it out and behold, you can. This feature had been disabled from some time. I wasn't aware of fit initially because I downloaded an old version of Kindle on my phone since I preferred that and didn't update. So even now, I can use that old phone to buy directly. However, I cannot use the app on my new phone which I've had for sometime.  I first found out a few years ago when I recommended a Kindle book to a co-worker who informed...
