Gratitude while FIRE'd

Another year has come and gone. Last November while watching the sumo tournament, Asanoyama said something that caught my attention. He's been gone from the very top division for sometime and I was happy to see him back. He did well and when he was interviewed after getting a winning record, he said: A lot has happened a long the way, the tournament isn't over yet. So I want to say focused, keep my gratitude in mind and continue giving my best. That is a good attitude to cultivate - an attitude of gratitude.  Last Monday, I stopped at a counter to do a pickup and I realized that people get up each day to show up to work. Later during the week, I stopped by the store to look for replacement bulbs and on my way back to the garage, I saw a worker helping a customer with loading their car and what I felt was gratitude to God. God has been good to me.  I think that sometimes, it's easy to forget the good we have but I think it is important to focus on the good we have, on the bl...

A week In The FI/RE'd LIfe: Monday

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, a question I see sometimes is: What do you do with all your time now that you have FI/RE'd or reached FI/RE. Since I don't use that term, I've had another nurse ask me what I do with my time now that I'm home because she knows I quit and it's been months. She actually found out around last September so she's not known for long. I was driving home earlier today after having a conversation with someone I met last month and I thought to blog about this week. I wrote about Sunday and I'm going to document some of the things I did today.

I was up after 7 today but really didn't get up until closer to 8. I'm trying to get up early. I really should have been up around 7 because I went to be early. I did my morning devotion and then ate. I just realized that I haven't really read the paper today. I usually take time to catch up on Wapo while eating breakfast. I had planned to cancel my subscription in May but I forgot and got charged. I still went ahead to cancel and was given the option to be rounded $59.xx and keep my subscription. In the past, I'm usually refunded about $80 but this time, they held more of it. Still, it was better than nothing. The notifications have been one after the other that I considered deleting the app at one point. I only glanced at the notification earlier but haven't really read. The comment section on Wapo is its own comedy.

Shortly after 10, I decided to organize some stuff and unpack and I did that until around 2. (oh wait, I haven't posted about the craziest thing I've done since I've FI/RE'd so you may be wondering what I mean by unpacking. Ha.) Then I was breaking down cardboard to take to the recycling. I also ordered some stuff for pickup. My plan was to go to the recycling before doing the pickup but I found myself at the light and realized that if I made a turn, Walmart was right there and so I did. Then I ended up going in to buy something I forgot to add to the order. From there, I went to the Recycling place.  I ended up having a conversation with someone at the recycling place. He was venting about how he would design bin differently. Nice guy. Anyway, I stopped to get some primer and chatted with a lady I met last month. We talked about the holiday and what not. It's interesting the people I've met and chatted with and gotten to know over the past few weeks. It's also made me aware that lots of people work as they tend to be at work almost daily. I went to Sams and only got one thing:

I saw these Raybern's Philly Cheese steak and wanted to try them. They are so good. I heated them in the microwave and the bread was nice and soft, the contents were well seasoned and as someone who has lived in a State and City with lots of "Wawa", I've got to say these are really good. I had not had them before.

I got home shortly before 5 and that was good because I had someone doing some work for me last week and they broke one of my fan blade holders. They are gold and since he couldn't find them in the store, he ordered them. I really didn't say anything but he offered to order them and replace them. He had wanted to stop by yesterday but I offered the option for today since I really didn't want someone doing work here on a Sunday. He stopped by and got it done. He pointed out that it's not like the original one I had so it doens't match the hardware at the bottom. The fan is old but it seems most of the stuff were custom ordered and built so I can see it not being the same today. I'm just glad he took responsibility and offered to change it. He ended up changing all the blade holders and I really think you have to look closely to see it is not the same shade of as the gold at the bottom.

I was also taping up while he was here. I had thought of using the primer but I don't feel like it. So I wrote a blog entry and now this. I've also snacked a great deal. I'm done with that.
